0 How to remove XP Security Center virus?

Symptoms: Lots of popups of various websites, Windows notifications about your credit card details being stolen, Windows notifications of programs cannot be run, general low performance of computer

Fix:

1. Start computer in safe mode by pressing F8 while starting. When starting in safe mode Windows disables all unnecessary processes unrelated to running the OS.

2. From start menu click "Run.." and type msconfig and hit enter

3. Navigate to tab which says "Startup"

4. From "Startup" tab search for application that has some number as it's name (e.g. 394838.exe) and that is  located in "C:\Windows\..." The place of that file varies and it can be for example in "Program files", "Temp" or straight in "Windows" folder. But best way to recognize it is to check the filename which is some random number and .exe

5. When you have successfully found the application untick the box next to it's name. This will prevent the virus to be run in startup which allows you to run your anti-virus software and clean your computer.

6. Reboot Windows normally

7. Check for signs of the virus, if none run your anti-virus software and fully scan the computer. Make sure that after the scan finishes the virus is removed either automatically by your anti-virus software or manually by yourself.
